Canskate Session Information

Information for Kinderskate, Juveniles, Junior, Junior "Plus", and Junior "Later Skater" Programs

Please note: No refunds without a doctor's letter.

  • skaters are taught to skate using the Skate Canada Canskate System
  • skaters are fully supervised in a fun-filled, caring and structured environment
  • sessions include an on-ice warm-up which prepares the skaters for the session
  • sessions include TWO 15 minute / ONE 30 minute skating skills group lesson when skaters learn the elements of the Canskate badge system. During these skills lessons the skaters are in small groups of not more than 6 skaters per professional coach.
  • Helmet (CSA approved) must be worn in all Kinderskate and Juvenile programs.

Please note: A responsible adult must be in the arena at all times for skaters in the Kinderskate and Juvenile sessions.

Power Skating – NEW SIX WEEK PROGRAM Friday September 10 – Friday October 15th inclu.

  • Skaters must be able to skate forwards and backwards. Please contact the administrator at info@leasideskatingclub to see if you are eligible before registering.
  • Equipment – helmets must be worn. Gloves, partial gear and sticks are optional.

Skate Canada STARskate/Test Stream Session Information

Sessions: Bronze, Silver and Gold

Bronze, Silver and Gold sessions start week of September 6, 2010

Please note: No refunds without a doctor's letter.

These sessions are for skaters who have entered or who are entering the Skate Canada Star/ Test Stream. This program offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Once a skater is in the Skate Canada STARSkate Program, there are several of options. Skaters may choose to remain in the STARSkate Program, taking tests at organized test sessions and honing learned skills. Skaters may also choose to enter competitions, while still trying Skate Canada tests. Other skaters may feel that they have progressed to a point where they may wish to enter the Skate Canada Competitive Skate Program or become involved in synchronized skating.

Bronze, Silver and Gold Session Format and Information:
  • Skaters may select from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday.
  • For safety reasons the Club reserves the right to limit the number of skaters registered in a program.
  • During the Freeskate sessions, skaters practice their individual Freeskate elements.*
  • During Dance sessions, skaters practice Dance and should use the Dance sessions appropriate for the dances they are working on.*
  • During Skills and Stroking sessions, skaters practice those specific skills.*
  • During Field Movement sessions, skaters practice those specific skills.*
  • Private lessons in all of the disciplines are available.

When viewing session criteria, please refer to the following list of Skate Canada Tests:

  • Freeskate: Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior Silver and Gold
  • Skills: Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior Silver and Gold
  • Dance:
    • Preliminary (Dutch Waltz, Canasta, Baby Blues)
    • Junior Bronze (Swing, Fiesta, Willow)
    • Senior Bronze (Ten-Fox, Fourteenstep, European)
    • Junior Silver (Keats, Harris, American, Rocker)
    • Senior Silver (Paso, Starlight, Blues, Killian)
