If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
For many of our Bronze skaters, this season will mark their first experience taking Skate Canada Tests. As this experience can be a little overwhelming (for both parents and skaters), this page and the accompanying information will hopefully answer some of the questions. For our Silver and Gold skaters, it will act as a reminder of the procedures and time lines to be followed when taking tests.
The notice informing skaters of an upcoming Test Day will be emailed to parents, posted on the Club's notice boards (in the lobby of the arena and outside the club office) three to four weeks before Test Day.
Once you see a notice for an upcoming Test Day, ask your coach whether you/your child is ready to take a test and if so, which one. Test application envelopes will be given directly to the skater by his/her coach. Make sure that all relevant information is filled out on the envelope and that the appropriate fees are enclosed in the envelope.
Deadlines for the submission of Test applications will be clearly marked as will the deadline for "pulling out" of any tests. Only Intermediate, High and the Introductory and Bronze Artistic/Interpretive Tests may be "pulled". For Low Tests, once the application is submitted, it is assumed that the skater is definitely taking the test.
These deadlines must be respected. The rules regarding length of notice for tests, application deadlines, pullout deadlines etc. are not Club rules. They are Skate Canada Test rules which all clubs must abide by. If the deadline is on a day that you do not skate, please submit your application prior to that date! Late and incomplete Test applications cannot be accepted. If a skater is sick and is unable to try a test, a doctor's note must be given to the Administrator by Test day.
The following dates are the dates for the Fall and Winter 2010/2011 Test Days. The deadlines for envelope submission will be made available at a later date.

The following information MUST be on all test envelopes at the time of submission:
- Skater's name
- Skater's phone number
- Skater's Skate Canada number
- (If you are unsure of your Skate Canada number, it can be obtained at the Club office) Name of skater's coach
- Name of partner if skater is taking a dance test
- Ticked boxes indicating tests to be taken
- All required Test and Administration fees
Envelopes that do not have all of the above information and fees will be returned to the skater's coach.
Skaters should submit one envelope per coach. If a skater has a different coach for dance than for skills and is testing dance and skills, he/she should submit a separate envelope for dance and a separate envelope for skills. Each envelope can have multiple tests indicated as long as all those tests are with one coach.
The $5.00 Administration fee is payable for each individual test taken. (The Administration fee offsets the cost of the Evaluator's travel, meals etc. All evaluators are volunteers.)
- Test Fees:
Dance Test $ 10.00 per dance
Skills Test $ 10.00 per skill level
Freeskate $ 10.00 per part (i.e. $ 10.00 for Program / $ 10.00 for Elements)
Interpretive $ 10.00 per test - Please submit fees in the test envelope.
- Cheque or cash are acceptable forms of payment.
- Test envelopes must be submitted by MIDNIGHT of the posted deadline
- Envelopes should be placed in the "Test Envelope" box inside the Club office or in the padlocked box outside the Club office
- Envelopes submitted after the posted deadline cannot be accepted.
Explanation: After the test envelope deadline, envelopes are immediately collected, a list is compiled and the list of skaters is submitted to Skate Canada. This is a 'time sensitive' procedure as Skate Canada requires this information immediately. Skaters who do not hand their envelopes in on time will not be included on the list submitted to Skate Canada
If the deadline is on a day when the skater does not skate, please submit your application prior to that date. - It is the skater's responsibility to ensure that test envelopes are submitted on time.
Deadlines for the submission of Test applications will be clearly marked as will the deadline for "pulling out" of any tests. Only Intermediate and High Tests may be "pulled". For Low Tests, once the application is submitted, it is assumed that the skater is definitely taking the test.
- A "pull" occurs when a coach feels that a skater (who has applied to do an Intermediate or High Test) is not ready to take a test
- The "Pull Deadline" is generally one week after the envelope submission deadline
- Skaters who "pull" by the posted "Pull Deadline" will receive a full refund.
- If a skater is sick and is unable to try a test after the "Pull Deadline", a doctor's note must be given to the Administrator by Test Day
Tests are designated as Low, Intermediate or High Tests. All skaters will be evaluated by a Skate Canada Evaluator. Your coach will tell you when you are ready for testing. Please see below for the dances included in each dance series. For a skater to have passed a complete dance test, the skater must have completed all dances in a particular series. For Example: For a skater to have passed the Preliminary Dance Test he/she must have passed the Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango and Baby Blues.

Bronze Artistic/Interpretive Tests Tested on High Test Days
(in Skate Canada-Central Ontario Section)
Tests are held on pre-determined days, sanctioned by the Central Ontario Section of Skate Canada. Test days will affect regular skating and will occasionally be tried during the daytime. The Club attempts to hold tests during the ice session time of the majority of skaters trying tests. Tests are usually held on a Tuesday as we have a four-hour block of ice time on that day which enables us to cover most tests. Tests are never held on a Friday. If your skater misses his/her regular skating time on a test day, the skater may make up the time on another day that week.
- Test schedules will be posted as soon as available
- Schedules will be posted in the main lobby and on the Club notice board
- Scheduling depends on the availability of Evaluators and may change after initial posting.
- Skaters are responsible for checking the schedules regularly prior to Test Day
This season, the North Toronto Skating Club and Forest Hill Skating Club will be hosting two of our High test days. The North Toronto test days will be held on a Thursday and the Forest Hill test day will be on a Monday. These tests usually take place during the day.
All skaters should be at the arena and ready to skate at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled skate time
- Skate Canada regulations allow schedules to run up to 30 minutes early. Scheduling is not an "exact science" and we do sometimes run ahead of schedule
- Skaters should register with the Ice Captain or the Dressing Room Attendant on arrival. (Both can be found in the Dressing Room area.)
- Skaters should remain in the Dressing Room area until they are called to the Ramp for their Test
- Once the Test has been completed, skaters who will not be doing another Test should leave the Dressing Room area as soon as possible
- Skaters who are scheduled to do another Test should check with the Ice Captain or Dressing Room Attendant for further instructions
- Skaters waiting for Test Results should wait in the Arena area
- Please be courteous of other skaters taking Tests by keeping the volume of noise to a minimum while in the Dressing Room and Ramp area
- Parents are welcome and are strongly encouraged to attend and support the skaters
- Girls should wear a skating dress or a neat fitting sweater and skating skirt
- Boys should wear skating pants
- Warm sweaters and gloves may be worn during the warm-up period immediately prior to a Test
Care of Skates Prior to Test Day
- When a skater knows that he/she will be trying a Test, ask the coach if his/her skates need sharpening
- Coaches will be able to recommend a reputable sharpening service
- Sharpening should be done a few days prior to the Test Day to allow the skater to get used to the sharpening
- Skates should be clean for Test Day
